Meet the Coaches

 

Gary Yohe

 

 

Director of Club Operations, Head Coach of the ’94 Boys Green and ’95 Girls Green

 

Gary Yohe is a 2007 graduate of Marian College in Indianapolis, IN.  Yohe was the starting goalkeeper for 3 years earning Conference Goalkeeper of the Year his Junior and Senior seasons.  Those two strong seasons also earned him spots on the All-Conference Team, All-Region Team and All-American Honorable Mention.  In Gary’s Junior season, Marian won the conference title and qualified for regional’s for the first time in school history.  Gary played his high school ball at Danville Community High School where he earned All-Conference and All-Metro his senior season.  His coaching career started right here at Westside United in 2003.  Gary is the head coach for the 95' Green Girls team and 94’ Green Boys team. 2007 was a successful season for both teams as the 94’ Boys were State Champions while the Girls were State Runners-Up. Gary was a finalist for Girls Coach of the Year for Indiana Youth Soccer in 2007. Yohe will also join the IUPUI Women’s staff as Goalkeeper Coach in 2008. Coach Yohe holds his USSF D license along with NSCAA State and Regional Goalkeeper Licenses.

 

Josh George

 

 

Director of Coaching, Head Coach of the ’93 Green Boys, U9 Academy Director

 

                Coach George is entering his 6th season of coaching at Westside United FC.  He started here with the ’89 Boys White team whom he led to many tournament championships across the Midwest and came within one goal of moving on to the state-semis as well as a #5 ranking in the state.  Five of his players from that team have moved on to play college soccer.  Josh was the varsity assistant coach and Junior Varsity head coach at Zionsville High School prior to taking the director of coaching position at Westside United.  He is currently coaching the ’93 Green Boys and is the U9 Academy Director. 

                Coach Josh played his high school soccer at Danville High School where he was a 2 year captain and MVP of the team his senior season.  He was voted 1st team All- Conference his Junior and Senior season.  He was on the first team All-Metro West as a senior which recognized some of the top players from around the area.   Josh also led the state in assists his senior season and holds the career record for assists, assists in a game, and assists in a season.  He went on to play college soccer at the University of Indianapolis where he was a 4 year letter winner before his graduation in 2006.

                Josh currently holds his USSF “E” license as well as his USSF National “D” license, and will be obtaining his “C” in the near future.  He also serves on the Indiana ODP staff when there is not a conflict with his club commitments.  He is currently the director of coaching for Westside United FC as well as a 5th grade teacher at St. Christopher School in Speedway.

 

 

 

Martin Cole

 

 

Head Coach of ‘92 Boys White and assistant coach of ‘94 Boys Green

 

Coach Cole just finished his final season playing for the IUPUI Men’s Soccer Team.  Cole has played at many different levels as a defender. Before IUPUI, he attended Merrillville High School.  His teams made it to Semi-state in 2000, and were State finalists in 2001 and 2002.  For both the 2001 and 2002 seasons, he won many awards, such as All District and Second Team All-State. He made the State ODP team in 2000, 2001, and 2002. He has competed in top tier tournaments such as the Blue Chip, Tampa Bay Sun Bowl, Nomads Tournament, and USA Cup.  He was a member of Westside United’s U-23 Men’s team that won state in 2007.

Cole started training players when he was in High School.  He assisted with training for other teams at his club, and worked local soccer camps.  During college he continued to help with IUPUI soccer camps, and start training club teams.  He switched to Westside United in the fall of 2007 after spending a few years at Indy Burn.  He is the head coach of WSU ’92 Boys White Team and assistant for WSU ’94 Boys Green Team. He has his E Coaching License and his NSCAA Advanced Regional Coaching License.  Cole will graduate from IUPUI in May 2008 majoring in Human Resources and Business Management.

 

Kyle Russell

 

Head Coach of the ’94 Boys White and assistant coach of ’91 Girls White

 

Kyle played at Washington High School where he was a 3 Year Varsity in which his team was extremely successful winning 3 Sectional Championships, 2 Regional Championships, 2 Semi-State Championships and 2 State Finals Appearances. Attended the University of Southern Indiana, where he participated in Club and Intramural Soccer as well as the Evansville Indoor League and Indianapolis Adult League.

Coach Russell’s first coaching opportunity came in 2005-2006 at Speedway Youth Soccer Association, U-12. He became the assistant for the Westside United ’89 Green team that finished as a State Cup Finalist.  He currently is coaching the Westside United ’94 team who won the Socctoberfest Tournament & Veteran’s Invitational Tournament last fall. He is also the ’91 Girls White assistant coach.  Kyle holds his USSF “E” State License as well as his USSF “D” National License.

Kyle graduated from the University of Southern Indiana with a degree in Advertising and Public Relations with a minor in Marketing. He is a Realtor with the FC Tucker Company specializing in Residential Property Sales in Hendricks and surrounding counties. Kyle is extremely optimistic about soccer in America, he enjoys taking the love and knowledge that he has and passing it on. Finally, he uses soccer as a tool to teach kids sportsmanship, positive attitude, hard work, teamwork, and success through competition.   

 

Eric Nance

 

 

Head Coach of the ’94 Girls Green Team

 

Eric is a graduate from the University of Indianapolis and is entering his second year as an assistant girl’s soccer coach at Avon High School. He currently holds his USSF "E" coaching license and has coached club soccer at Westside United for four years. He is the head coach of the ’94 Girls Green team at Westside United and has been the assistant coach for the ’89 Boys White team for two years as well.  His teams have competed in and won tournaments all over the Midwest as well as an ISL championship in his first year of coaching the girls.   

Eric attended Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis where he was a 4 year varsity starter and 3 time all-MIC conference selection for the Giants. He was also a four year starter for the University of Indianapolis Men’s Soccer Program. Where during his senior year he was team captain, leading scorer, and was All Great Lakes Valley Conference Honorable Mention. This past summer Eric played for the state amateur cup champs the Indianapolis Rangers. He is currently a fourth grade teacher at Stephen Decatur Elementary.

 

Justin Sullivan

 

 

Head coach of the ’93 Girls Green Team and assistant coach of the ’93 Boys Green Team

 

                Coach Sullivan currently holds a USSF “E” Certification and is looking to take his “D” coaching course in the near future.  Coach Justin has two years experience coaching club soccer at Westside United FC. He is currently the '93 Green Girls Head Coach and the '93 Green Boys Assistant.  He recently took a position at Franklin College to be the Men's and Women's Assistant Soccer Coach, and just recently joined the Indiana ODP staff.

                Coach Sullivan played collegiately at the University of Indianapolis where he was a four year starter and letter winner.  He captained the team his final two years, in both of which the team was arguably one win away from the NCAA Division II tournament.  Growing up in the club system, Justin spent time at Dynamo Katner FC and Academy Soccer Club of Indianapolis (now defunct).   

 

Jimmy Rust

 

 

Head Coach of the ’96 Boys Green and White Team

 

                Coach Rust has been coaching club soccer for 5 years now, 4 at Westside United.  He coaches both the ’96 Boys Green and White team.  He has led both teams to many tournament championships as well as a Challenge Cup State Championship.  He was also the Zionsville Boys Freshman Head Coach during the 2006-2007 season.  He currently holds his USSF “E” license and will be obtaining his “D” license in the near future.

                Jimmy played high school soccer at Speedway High school and earned many awards and was captain of his varsity team for three years.  He was a four-year varsity starter at Speedway.  His play in high school as well as club earned him a soccer scholarship to the University of Indianapolis where he was a 3 year starter and two-time captain.  He graduated in 2006 majoring in Biology.

Head Coach of the ’92 Boys Green Team

 

                Coach Wey is in his first season at Westside United taking over the ’92 Green Team.  He has previously coached at Indy Burn and coached many camps for IUPUI as well as Westside United Winter Camp.  He currently holds his USSF National “D” license.

                Chris played his high school ball at Munster High School where he earned four varsity letters.  Chris was named First Team All-Conference, All-Area and Honorable Mention All-State as a senior... chosen to the District I First Team his final season. He helped Munster to the regional finals his senior year.  His play in high school and club earned him a college scholarship to play at IUPUI where he was four-year varsity letter winner and starter.  He will be graduating this upcoming May with a degree in Education.

 

Brian Holmer

 

 

U9 Academy Coach

 

Brian is entering his 9th year of coaching High School soccer, 8 with Avon and his third season as the head coach.   During his first two season as head coach, the Lady Orioles have an overall record of 27-9-6 with a fifth consecutive trip to Semi-State in 2006 .   Brian is a member of the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association (ISCA) and Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association (ICGSA) at the high school level and was named the 2006 Indy Star Metro West Coach of the Year.  He currently holds an "E" coaching license and has attended the Midwest Soccer Symposium presented by the Indiana University Men's Soccer coaching staff.  He has coached club soccer for ten years while leading his teams to a runner-up finish in the World 3v3 Championships and National Indoor Championships.  Brian was the director and coordinator for the Jr. Academy this past spring at Westside United for ages 5-8.  He coached  the U14 Westside United '94 Green Premier girls team. He played varsity soccer at Ben Davis High School in the early 90's.  He is currently coaching the U9 Academy Boys at Westside United. Brian is married to Dawn and they have three children, Kyle, Abby and Emily.

Brian Irk

Coach Irk is a 2007 graduate of the University of Indianapolis where he was a 4-year Men's Soccer Letter Winner.  Brian is originally from La Porte, IN, where he played under current Director of  Coaching for Indiana Youth Soccer, Vince Ganzburg. Brian holds the single-game, single-season, and career scoring records at La Porte.  Coach Irk holds his E-License and coaches the U-10 Boys Green and White teams at WSU.

 

Ben Carowan

 

 

Goalkeeper Coach

 

                    Coach Carowan is our new goalkeeper coach at Westside United.  He helped out with the U-15 Westside girls in 2005 and helped coach goalkeepers with various teams that Dave Holmer has coached.  He has also been the assistant/keeper coach for Lakeside Middle School girls for 2 years.  I have my E-coaching license.  He is currently the goalkeeper coach for the Avon High School Girls and Boys teams.
                    Coach Ben played 3 years Varsity high school at Avon.. His teams at Arsenal were runner-ups for state two years, and he also played one year at Westside United.   He played 1 year at East Carolina University and 3 years at Taylor University, Ft. Wayne.

 

Geoff VanDeusen

 

 

Head Coach of ’91 Girls Green Team

Coach VanDeusen, currently University of Indianapolis Head Women's Soccer Coach, brings 12 years of collegiate coaching experience after a recent four-year stint at Univ of Central Missouri (UCM), where he led the Jennies to a 12-5-3 record in 2006 and a berth into the NCAA tournament. 

"I am ecstatic about being at the University of Indianapolis, and I'm also very excited to lead the Westside 91 Girls club team as well," VanDeusen said.  With his collective coaching experience over the years, VanDeusen figures to bring a more collegiate soccer atmosphere to a team that already has a good deal of talent. 

As a player, VanDeusen started two years as a goalkeeper for the Leathernecks of Western Illinois University after transferring from Trinity College in Deerfield, Ill., where he started as a freshman and sophomore and helped lead the Trojans to a third place finish at the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament. 

VanDeusen has also worked with ODP teams at the state level in Iowa and Nebraska, and at the regional level in Region I.  He served on the NCAA Division II National Women's Soccer Committee for five years, serving as chair in both 2003 and 2004 in addition to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention Committee. 

Denis Sehic

 

                    Coach Sehic played at North Central High School from 2000-2004 where he led his team to State Runner Ups in 2000 and 2003.  He won state championships in 2002 State.   Denis earned many awards such as All county, All-North, State Super Team, All State, and all MIC conference. He is in his 2nd year of coaching at Westside United. Coach Denis coaches the U13 White Girls and U15 White Boys.  His Girls won the Fusion Tournament this past fall.  He also serves as a Varsity Assistant Coach at North Central High School.  Denis has his National D license, Youth Certificate, and Youth Technical licenses. He won state last season with the Westside U23 team.  Denis played his club ball for Carmel United and Dynamo FC.   He played collegiate soccer at U of I for 1 year and IUPUI for 3 years.

 

Mark Nirrengarten

 

Jr. Academy Director

 

                    Former Avon High School Varsity Boys Coach (15 years) Mark Nirrengarten will run the Junior Academy.  Mark has coached teams of varied abilities and ages over the past sixteen years and holds a National license from the NSCAA.

Krissy Robbins continues with WSU for her third season. This year she is heading up the ’96 Green squad. This past fall they compiled a record of 11-3-2. Last spring she co-coached the ’91 Ladies. She has also assisted with WSU Jr. Academy and Summer Camps. Krissy currently holds her USSF E License. She played soccer for the University of Indianapolis on scholarship for 4 years where she was the Kelso-Reid Mental Attitude award winner in 2005.

Tim Cirbo

Head Coach 97’ Green Boys             

Coach Cirbo has played the game for 30+ years at all levels.  He started playing at age 7 in a recreational league and later in a competitive (travel) program in Colorado thru U-23.
Coach Cirbo was selected to the all state team and won state as a senior in high school. He later played college soccer and held the role of player coach at Colorado State for 2 of the 4 years.  He continued to play at a high level in the CIASA.  Cirbo has been coaching youth soccer for 8 years in Terre Haute, Avon and Westside.  He currently coaches the U-11 boys and assists with the U13 girls as needed.  I have an E license to coach and certified to referee.
