Tri-West U8 and U10 Academy
I would like to just welcome Tri-West
to our Westside United community! We are very excited about the
partnership and look forward to providing premier level coaching to the
Tri-West Youth Soccer Club. I have typed up this document to give
everyone an overview of the training sessions that will be provided
along with the coaches information in case there is ever an emergency
that needs to be attended to right away. All of our coaches that we
will be sending out there are coaches that have played at a high level
(all are coaches that have played in college or are going to be playing
in college next year). We look forward to providing some great coaching
in the weeks to come!
Thank You,
Josh George
Director of Coaching

Academy Overview
Coaches can adjust where they see fit…
August 27-28, September 17-18, October 8-9
6:00- 6:15- Group Warm-up---Mix in dynamic and
static stretching
6:15- 7:00- Stations
7:00-7:30- 3v3 Games
Make sure to give plenty of water breaks.
Station 1: Passing and Receiving
Half of the players will get in a big circle around
the other half of the players that are located within the circle.
Players on the outside start with ball. Go through 1 to 2 minute rounds
progressing through the following passing and receiving skills:
2 touch- Player inside of the
circle takes a prep touch then plays directly back to player on outside.
Find a new player- Player
inside of circle takes a touch into space and finds someone on the
outside of the circle that does not have a ball and passes to them. Mix
in different ways to turn.
Overlapping Run- Players on
inside start with the ball. They play to a player on the outside then
follow their pass and make a run around the player on the outside with
ball and receive it back. Communication is key for the player on
inside. Have them say hold, hold, hold, release to player on outside
that receives the ball.
Station 2: Footskills
Coaches will direct players through different types
of cuts and moves. Players will juggle in between cuts and moves as a
way of taking a break from a conditioning standpoint because the cuts
and moves will be tiring to the player if done at game speed.
Moves may consist of inside of the foot cut,
outside of the foot cut, cryuff, pullback, step over, Maradona, Grichka,
rake, etc.
Station 3: Knockout
All players are in a 30x30 box or 40x40 box
depending on numbers. Each player has their own ball. The object of the
game is for the players to knock each others soccer balls out of the box
without getting their own knocked out. You are out once your ball is
knocked out. Last player left in the box wins.
September 3-4, September 24-25
6:00-6:15- Warm up---Mix in dynamic and static
stretching
6:15-7:00 Stations
7:00-7:30- 6v6, 7v7, 8v8 Games, if space is not
adequate then play 3v3 Games
Give plenty of water breaks
Station 1: Possession
Coaches will teach the principals of possession in
a space adequate enough for the numbers that will be provided. Some key
concepts of possession that they will focus on are spacing, playing
simple, playing the way you are facing, switching the point of attack,
etc.
Stations 2: Shooting (can be on 3v3 Goals or
small-sided goals)
Coaches will teach shooting for accuracy, inside of
the foot, laces, outside of the foot, and correct positioning of your
plant foot and follow through on your shot.
Station 3: Sharks and Minnows
Set up two end lines. The shark is ‘it’ and there
is only one to begin with. When the coach says go, the ‘minnows’
dribble from end line to end line. If they get there balls stolen or
kicked away out of the boundary, then they become a shark. The last
minnow to remain is the winner.
September 10-11, October 1-2
6:00-6:15 Warm up---Mix in dynamic and static
stretching
6:15-7:00 Stations
7:00-7:30 3v3 Games
Give plenty of water breaks.
Station 1: Passing
Start off two touch passing. Make sure players are
on their toes and passing with the inside of their foot. They should be
at least ten yards away and be in partners at this point. Then move to
twenty yards apart and teach flighted balls. If time allows, work on
passing and moving in groups of 3 while keeping a triangle shape between
the players.
Station 2: Juggling
Coaches will teach players how to get the ball off
of the ground while giving some more advanced way to more advanced
players. They should be juggling for the entire 15 minutes while coach
or coaches is going around directing them.
Station 3: Simon Says
Just like regular “Simon Says”. Coach will start
it off.

I would like to ask that the coaches of the
individual teams at Tri-West to be there to assist in whatever way the
Westside United staff deems necessary. This will also help the coaches
pick up new concepts that they can incorporate into their own coaching.
Thank you.
